Weekly Update

Weeks: 31
Cravings: Pretty much anything unhealthy... I have had lots of cravings for sweet pastries - donuts, Toaster Strudels, whatever I can get at the time!
Aversions: Just anything acidic that will give me heartburn... Especially OJ.
Sleep: I have actually been sleeping better the past week... Yay!  I don't know why, but I have been getting to bed earlier and not tossing and turning so much.
Breakdowns: None.
Significant Events: Not a whole lot happened this week... The baby is getting big and kicking away.  Per the books that I read, baby should be about 3 1/2 lbs by now!!  Yowza!  The kicks are starting to get pretty intense... I think we have a feisty one.  :-)  I had a doctor's appt the other day and she said that everything is looking good and we are measuring right on track!!
What I Miss: Nothing really.  Doing very good this week!
What I’m Looking Forward To: Ordering bedroom furniture!  I am going later today to place the order at Babies R Us.  We finally gave up on the other stuff and are getting a refund, so when we order the Babies R Us stuff, it should only take 1-2 weeks.  So excited!
What I’ve Learned: My clinicals this semester are in high risk OB, which is exactly two floors above L&D at Wesley.  All the people in my clinical group are betting on me going into labor at clinicals, so they can have a "free day".  What slackers!
Belly Pic: I know I am doing the update late again (sorry!), but this picture was actually taken Tuesday, which is exactly 31 weeks.  I feel huge, btw.  People say that I'm not, but good luck convincing me.

A "perfect storm" happened tonight...

I swear, that is what it is, because this would not normally happen under normal conditions.

There were two main contributing factors.  First, I have been reading the book "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp.  It teaches the 5 S's of how to calm a crying baby, and the first "S" is swaddling.  So, of course, it gives detailed directions on how to swaddle the baby, and instructions to try it on a doll.

Next, we just got a new flip-cam.  We had gift cards to Wal-Mart, so we got it pretty cheap.  We thought it would be nice to have before the baby comes.

So, with both of these events happening at the same time, it produced a disastrous result.  Yes, that is a link to a youtube video.  And, why yes, that is me on the youtube video.  Swaddling Mugsy. You have to see it for yourself.

Weekly Update

Sorry I am so late with the post this week!!  I'll try not to make it a habit. :-)
Weeks: 30
Cravings: Anything and everything... I have had this craving for sweets this week... I really wanted donuts over the weekend.
Aversions: None.
Sleep: Getting better.  I think that I have figured out where to position the pillows to get the most comfortable.  Unfortunately, this leaves me with about 5 pillows and Brett with 1.
Breakdowns: None.
Significant Events: We started childbirth prep classes!  They started on Wednesday night, and they will go for 6 weeks.  I will give more details about it after we get into it a little more.  I also started school on Wednesday, which was really fun!  It was good to see all of my nursing friends.
What I Miss: Pizza... My heartburn wouldn't handle it very well.
What I’m Looking Forward To: Everything!  Getting furniture, decorating the room, baby showers, baby!!
What I’ve Learned: Nothing really great.  I have learned a bit about this furniture fiasco that we are having... Specifically, when in doubt about what the guy at the furniture store is telling you, call the manufacturer.  Okay, I know, that seems weird and vague.  It is a loooooong story.  I don't have the energy to type it out right now.  Just keep your fingers crossed that we get our furniture in the next two weeks.
Belly Pic:  Okay, I know that the actual post is late, but the pic is from Tuesday, which was exactly 30 weeks... It was about 6 am, and I was on my way to meet my car-pool girls (Dera and Lauren) for the first day of class.

More nursery progress!

What a fun weekend!

I picked the curtains up today (they were specially made from the same lady that did the blankets.. she is pretty much awesome).  I knew that she was going to be done with them today, so yesterday I went to Lowe's and got a curtain rod.  I'm kind of like a kid at Christmas time when I get stuff for the baby... I want to open it, set it up, test it out, etc immediately!!  And I didn't want to have to nag Brett to do it.  I figured that I am self-sufficient, I have my own set of tools (courtesy of Dixi and Brad - oh, and they are pink!), and I can do it myself.  So, I did.  I installed the curtain rod all by myself.  And it only looks a little bit crooked.  Am I being serious?  Why yes I am.  I installed the curtain rod at a slant.  Awesome.

So, after we got the curtains today, Brett helped me fix the curtain rod (and when I say that Brett helped me, I mean that he fixed it... by himself... I actually wasn't allowed to touch anything).  He told me that - although he thought it was sweet and cute that I took it upon myself to do it - next time just wait for him before I start putting holes in the walls.  So, it may have taken a little extra work, but the curtains are up!  Here is a picture.  (This was taken from my phone, and for some reason the light really shows through in the pic... It isn't that bad in person.)

Weekly Update

Weeks: 29
Cravings: Everything!!  I feel like I am just hungry all the time... I had a huge craving for pho this weekend, and I got some a couple of days ago.  It was everything I hoped it would be!
Aversions: None.  I wish that I actually did have some... Maybe it would keep me from eating so much. :-)
Sleep: You know, the same, which is not very much.  I had figured out a way to position the Snoogle that makes it much more comfortable.
Breakdowns: None!  Just severe exhaustion while running errands.  Me complaining like a 6 year old might have happened.
Significant Events: I had a doctor's appt today, and we are measuring right on track!  And today is officially the start 2 week appts... At least until March when we go to weekly appts.
What I Miss: Being able to eat without having to worry about heartburn!  I haven't even so much as thought about having a piece of pizza lately...
What I’m Looking Forward To: Getting the furniture in, getting the nursery set up, getting the hospital bag pregpared... Oh, yeah... and having a baby!  I can't wait to find out if it is a boy or girl and see what our little baby looks like!
What I’ve Learned: There were two things this week... 1) My OB told me to start taking a DHA supplement today.  Apparently, this is an omega fatty acid, and you can take fish oil pills.  Well, I was looking through all of the bottles of fish oil pills, and most of them have on the label "No fish burps!".  Um, really?  Just the thought of having fish burps scared me enough that I went straight for the non-fish DHA supplements.  It was worth the extra $2.50, in my opinion.  2) There was leftover material from all the blankets and stuff, so I decided that I wanted to try to make something for the baby's room.  I decided on some decorative pillows.  I made them last night and this morning.  They were quite easy until it got to the point that I needed to sew up the final seam... that was a little tough.  Overall, I am not too bad, though!  I included pics so you can see what they look like.  (The back has the soft "minky" material!)
Belly Pic: This was taken this morning just before my doctor's appt.  Technically, 29 weeks and 1 day.  That plastic bottle that I am holding up is my glucose drink, that I had to force down before my appt this morning... It actually wasn't that bad.  Keep your fingers crossed that I pass the glucose test and don't have to have the long gestational diabetes screeing!!

Nursery Progress

I mentioned in the weekly blog that we have had lots of nursery progress lately.  Well, I just thought that I would post some pics for everyone to see!

This is us setting up the new organizational cubes that we got... I actually used a hammer and still have all of my fingernails.

Here it is once we got it all set up and in the closet.  Mugsy had to give it the final seal of approval.

Here is the new carpet... Which is kind of hard to judge since we didn't really get any pictures of the old carpet... You can kind of see the old carpet in the above pics of the organizer in the closet.  It was pretty ugly.

These are pics of the new blankets that we had made... Denise gave us the name of a lady who can sew really well, so we just ordered the material and she made them for us.  It is a printed material on one side and a soft "minky" material on the other side.  They were ridiculously expensive online, and she did such a great job... They look exactly the same, but for a much better price!  I was really excited to get them today.  Mugsy was, too.

Okay, so the last one isn't really "nursery" progress, but I thought I would include a picture anyways.  We got our umbrella stroller just before Christmas.  I needed to test it out, just to see how it turns and stuff.  So, who better to test it out for me?  I don't think he was very amused.

Weekly Update

Weeks: 28
Cravings: Brett and I went to Wal-Mart yesterday just to pick up a few things... peanut butter, milk, etc.  We went down the ice cream aisle, and I thought I was going to lose it!  I wanted to eat it all!  I had been craving ice cream all week, but last week it just about resulted in disaster... Seriously.  I resisted the urge to come home with frozen Snickers, Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, cheesecake bites, and 5 different kinds of Ben and Jerry's.  I ended up getting a 1/2 gallon of "no sugar added" strawberry.  Man, I could have done some damage if Brett would have let me, though.
Aversions: Currently, anything that will cause me indigestion, particularly OJ.  Which is a real stinker, because I loved OJ at the beginning of pregnancy.
Sleep: I tossed and turned last night, and then tossed some more.  I don't see this changing for the next, oh, 18 years.
Breakdowns: None!  Brett actually admitted that I am far less hormonal that he thought I would be.  I really haven't been a huge beast to live with.  Promise.
Significant Events: We are really making progress on the nursery!  Brad and Dixi painted it when they were down for Thanksgiving.  This past week, we got new carpet put in, and we got a storage system for the closet.  We are hoping that we get the furniture next week!  (Cross your fingers for this one... it has been quite a mess to get it in stock.)
What I Miss: Nothing!  I am feeling good... I can't believe it is less than 3 months.  (Let me rephrase that: I *hope* it is less than 3 months, because I have a feeling that if I am still pregnant in 3 months, I won't be a very comfortable chick.)
What I’m Looking Forward To: I am really excited to get the nursery going!  I can't wait to get furniture... once the furniture is in place, it will be much easier to start decorating.  :-)
What I’ve Learned:  Pretty sure that the baby maneuvered into a position it hadn't been into until last night... It seemed like that feet were down, and the head was way up by my belly button.  So, the result of this was not fun!  First, I'm pretty sure that s/he was using my bladder as a step stool.  I kept running to the bathroom because I thought I was going to pee my pants, and then I would get a few little tinkles.  Then, s/he started kicking.  That was just a brand new feeling, that I didn't particularly love.  Very weird, indeed.
Belly Pic: Here's one from this morning... I took a bare belly shot too.  Not that I am thinking that I am hot stuff and need to show off my belly.  But, I figured before I have stretch marks all over it, I might as well show it off!
